Today the babies are ONE YEAR OLD!! I don't know which is more amazing - that we made it to a year or that they made it to a year. It is kind of a surreal feeling. I just went in to cover them up and just can't believe how lucky we are.
Today, we woke up and decided we would take them to Peter Piper to ride the train. We took them there about 4 months ago and they enjoyed it but were just a little bit too young to really "fit" the ride. Well, not today. We took my mother and met my in-laws there so the whole immediate family was there for the last minute impromptu train ride. The babies were so well behaved while we were out, but then again they usually are.
When we returned home the poor things were just wore out! They took their sippy cups and went down for their afternoon nap about 20 minutes early. They just crashed when they hit the bed.
All in all it was a great day. I can't wait for their party this Sunday. We have the Baylor Spirit Leaders coming as well as a guy in a dog costume that I am getting from Fuzzy Friends - the best charity organization!! - and of course lots & lots of cup cakes!

Poor husband....
Today has been an all daddy day with the babies. We both are under the weather today but he is at least able to hold his head up. I have spent 14 of the last 16 hours in bed and now am awake but miserable. My husband is sound asleep, poor guy.
I don't know what is wrong with us. I'm just glad that he was able to take care of the babies. I have taken some over the counter meds and pray they kick in. If they don't I have no idea how I will make it with the babies tomorrow.
Right now, more meds, an ice cold diet Coke to cool me off, and back to bed....after I check on the babies one last time.

Whew, the first birthday
Since my mother won a silent auction item for the Baylor Spirit Squad to make a birthday party appearance at the babies' birthday, it has been a whirl-wind last 3 days to get it planned and scheduled.
Their birthday is actually on a Wednesday so we have always said we would have their party either the weekend before or after. That sounds easy enough.....no quite. My husband's mother will not be here the weekend before and the weekend after is Valentine's Day. The Spirit Squad have games the Saturday before and the Saturday after. So, my husband and I discussed it and basically just had to make a decision that we hope, at least, will cause the least amount of re-scheduling for everyone.
First, we called the Baylor squad sponsor and asked about the Sunday after, which is actually Valentines' Day. My husband and I are not big "Valentine" people but I know that college students can be. The sponsor called me back the following morning and said that if the party is in the afternoon, which it will be because that is the longest time period that the babies are awake, that she already had 6 commitments from people to be there. That actually worked out 2 of the possible date conflicts - both grandmothers will be here and the Baylor Spirit Squad (the majority of them) are available.
Next, since we will be inviting friends with children of all ages to enjoy the Baylor Squad, we needed to find a location. The Arboretum is nice but ended up being out of our price range. I hit the jackpot with the Woodway Family Center. It also is available on 2/14 and is affordable. We will have access to the gym for the Squad and children to play and another room for food set up.
Last nite I worked for about 5 hours - really - looking on line for invitations. There are just no choices for boy/girl twin 1st birthday. Everything is either gender specific or color specific. Finally, I found a puppy dog invite that is red and teal. I can work with this. If nothing else, I can just use a plain red and white color scheme - it is Valentines' Day as well. Those were ordered this morning and are to be here by the end of next week.
I have left to find someplace to order cupcakes, buy the plates/cups/napkins (again red if nothing else), and come up with goody bags. Not in a big hurry for those things, however. I have time to make those arrangements and I will need to get a feel from the RSVP's to see how many to order/make. So, I have a few weeks break....at least I hope I do.

What a Day!
Well, after my post this morning I figured I couldn't leave it all hanging out there, so here is the end of it.
I left my mother with the babies while I ran a few errands. When I got home it was time to give the babies' their afternoon bottles then put them down for a nap. Mother & I got on the computer and downloaded and printed the pictures she took of her new house so she could refer to them when packing/selling items from Inez. I also had a few reports to enter online. Just as I was finishing that up, the babies were waking up early.
We played with them until dinner time and fed them their dinner and bottles. My husband came home from quail hunting and was exhausted. Poor man walked about 4 miles carrying a gun so his bicep was tight and his legs were tired. We all played with the babies until it was pj time then bottles then off to bed.
Then we had dinner and sat down to watch about 30 minutes of TV. My husband went to bed and crashed about 8:30. After I was sure he was asleep, which took only about 10 minutes, I then pulled down the attic stairs and began to get the Christmas boxes down. I had to get started packing away the Christmas decorations...they were killing me.
I got all of the ornaments packed away and the lights. I then repacked the Little People Nativity Set away in its box. If you have never seen one I recommend getting one. My husband's mother got one for the babies and gave it to them a few weeks before Christmas. Of course at this age they picked up the pieces and chewed on them but as they get older we can use it to teach them about Christmas. And, because it is Little People they will be drawn to it each year. I also got the mini tree and ornaments packed and the tree skirt and topper. All that is left is to take the tree to the curb for Wednesday pick up.
Now, everyone is in bed, which I will be joining my husband shortly. What a day!! Tomorrow will be just as busy with the round trip run to DFW and getting back in time to go to the bank. Since Christmas is basically put away I can use some of the time I had planned to do that tomorrow to get a few other things done on the way home from the airport. Now, enough wearing myself out just thinking about it and off to bed...

Busy New Year
Well, it has been a crazy busy last 5 days. My husband left Lexington last Saturday after Christmas to drive my mother's car to Texas so she would have it when she moves. So my mother flew back here with me and the babies. Again, surprisingly, they did great on the flight.
We all got home with my husband's help of meeting us at the airport and helping with the car seats and luggage. That nite my husband's parents came over to see the babies and to bring some additional presents that "appeared" (Santa had made an extra stop). My husband's mother also had gone shopping the day after Christmas and apparently found a huge sale on baby clothes. The babies got so many cute outfits it was hard to decide what to dress them in the next day!
We took the babies to their grandparents for the day and nite of New Year's Eve. My husband, my mother and I went to the Barkin' Ball party and had a blast. My mother ended up bidding on and winning a birthday package from the Baylor Spirit Squad - for the babies' first birthday!! It will be fun and quite the unusual first birthday party if I do say so myself. Now we just need to decide on a theme and get the party booked. Since the babies' birthday is on a Wednesday we were looking at the weekend before or after. We have to book it around the Baylor basketball schedule so the Spirit Leaders will be free and there is a game the Saturday before and after so we will look at a Sunday. I have to wait until Monday to call Baylor to get with the squad's sponsor. If we can make it work the Sunday after, which is Valentines' Day, maybe we can do a red Valentine theme.....That way it won't be to girly for our son.
Anyway, today my husband is out on a quail hunt and I have a few errands to run while my mother is here today to watch the babies. Tomorrow, I take her to the airport while my husband's mother keeps the babies. Maybe then I can work on getting the Christmas decorations put away when I get back but before picking the babies up. This is the longest that we have ever left Christmas decor up but with 2 babies the days fly by. Of course, I wouldn't change it for anything!!

A Kentucky Christmas
We have been in Ky now for 5 days. The flight here was very uneventful. The babies did great on the plane and at the airports. I was very thankful that the flight did not cause them stress. The day after, Wednesday, however, was a different story. I guess it was due to lack of sleep on Tuesday and overstimulation that they were both pretty whiny and tired. They just needed a day to de-stress I guess.
We traveled to Inez Wednesday nite while trying to keep the car travel during times they would normally be sleeping. That was our hope anyway. They ended up sleeping about 30-40 minutes of the drive and crying the rest of it.
Thursday we got them ready after their lunch and went to Warfield. I took them on the hill to my father's and grandparent's graves and visited for a few minutes. We then went to my friend's parent's house for Christmas Eve lunch. We had the best fried chicken and the babies had their first bite of real mashed potato and green beans. They were also very well behaved, thank God.
We then went to visit a friend of my mother's and see her grandchildren. Again, we couldn't have asked for better babies. We were also made to feel so welcomed. I truly miss this closeness of friends.
We drove back to Lexington that nite and, once again, the babies slept for about the first 40 minutes of the drive. When we arrived we put them down after a bottle and they went right to sleep.
We spent Christmas day in our pj's and laid around after opening presents. We had a great lunch/dinner of roast beef and all the fixings. The babies had a great day and were in happy moods. Of course it helped that they got lots of new toys and Nana had bought some more to keep them occupied throughout the day.
Saturday, the day after Christmas, we went to my dad's sister's house for their family Christmas. It was so nice to be with family that I have not seen in a while. I didn't realize how much I missed that closeness or connection until I was there and felt it. I have lived in Waco now for just over 4 years and have tried so hard to find a closeness or connection but have not been allowed in. Now it is pretty much too late although I keep trying. Why, I have no idea.....isn't that definition of insanity.....
I am also realizing that now that my mother will be moving to Waco, my babies' will never know my history. They spent the nite in Inez Wednesday but they will never remember or know the house that I grew up in or the town that I lived in. They will probably never again go to my father's grave or understand anything about him or what he accomplished. It is due to everything that I have given up and will give up for the sake of my family with my husband and our babies that I just don't understand how selfish and cruel people can be.
See, on top of all of this, just like every other event that I have had with my husband, this holiday has a cloud over it. I just wanted to bring my children to Ky for their first Christmas so my family could see them, I could take them to my friends to see. These are people who have called/emailed to see how the babies are, to see how they are growing, who make comments on their pictures on facebook. By bringing them to Ky at this time of year, they fly for free as "lap kids" and are too young to be worried about Santa "finding them". My husband would only miss 2.5 days of work during a time that would be slow anyway. But, just like everything else, my husband's family had to be cruel about it.
Instead of just saying they would be disappointed about not being with the babies on their first Christmas but that they understood, I was accused of "doing this" just to hurt them and make it a bad Christmas. When my husband tried to explain that was not the case, he was told then that I had just brain washed him. Again, another power I was not aware of having.
Hopefully, we can have a 2010 that will not have a cloud over everything we do that should be a celebration, a happy occasion. There is always hope....
